CCA EASTERN AGM ANNOUNCED

Happy New Year and welcome to 2012! This year is slated to be one of the best in rodeo history. I would like to announce that our Eastern AGM is scheduled for:

Saturday February 25, 2012 at 1:00pm at
The Stampede Ranch, in Guelph

This meeting will be the same day as the Ram Rodeo Tour banquet to make it easier for all who are planning to attend. The AGM is your opportunity as contestants to voice your opinion and assure that you are properly represented.

We will be voting on the following rep positions:

1.Eastern Director – (Bill Thom)
2.Judges Rep – (Mary Schofield)
3.Team Roping – (Brian Roworth)
4.Tie Down/Break away – (Stephanie Gregson/Williams)
5.Stock Contractor – (Larry Smith)
6.Pole Bending – (NEW POSITION)

All positions need to have the candidate nominated, voted on in open form and accepted by majority. The Eastern Director, Stock Contractor, and Judges rep positions are voted on by all CCA members that are present but the event reps are voted on only by the participants of that event that are present at the AGM. As event participants please assure you are in attendance to cast your vote. If you are interested in any one of the positions that are up for election but cannot make the AGM, I need to know in writing of your intentions prior to the meeting.

As of today our AGM agenda is not set in stone. Please let me know if there are any items that you would like to add to the agenda or anything that you would like to have brought up for discussion.

I will be heading to Regina for the CCA AGM being held February 10th and 11th. In preparation, I am gathering a list of items to talk about from the membership here in Ontario. If you have anything on your mind that you want me to bring up please let me know with enough notice so I can be prepared to speak on your behalf.

I look forward to an exciting 2012 and I hope to continue to represent you as your CCA Eastern Director.

CCA REGINA FINALS

Well the first two rounds are complete and our eastern competitors are hanging in there.

Round one was a tough start for all of the eastern competitors. Robert was able to make his ride but unfortunately did not place for the evening. Myles was able to hang in there for a good 7 seconds on the bronc he was on. Corey made a run but unfortuneately broke out which put him out of the money for the night. Stephanie and Morgan had good runs but unfortunately they both knocked barrels.      Lane , Scott and Bill were all bucked off. Tough start guys.

Round two

The second round seemed to get rid of the first night jitters. Robert and Myles both made their rides but were out of the day placing. Corey had a great run and came in with a second place for the day.   Stephanie and Morgan had some good runs and were able to stick in there for 6th and 4th respectively. Scott and Bill had some tough stock and were bucked off in the second round. Hang in there guys. Lane had a great ride and was able to hang in there for the 1st place in his event. Good job.

THE CANADIAN COWBOYS ASSOCIATION FINALS ARE CLOSING IN

The rodeo season is coming to a close and the Canadian Finals are closing in. Some of our year end winners have packed their bags and are on their way as we speak. You should be able to follow the results on the CCA website and the Ram Rodeo website www.ontariorodeo.com. Good luck to Myles Hughston, Robert Ball, Lane Morris, Scott McMahon, Morgan Bos, Stephanie Leyzac, Corey Hopkins, and the Eastern Director Bill Thom. This year the competition has changed and will start on Tuesday night. Stay tuned on the websites for results.

As posted on the CCA East Blog Spot the Rodeo Tour Series Finals Ground Rules are as follows:

All “CCA Bylaws and Rodeo Rules” and “Ontario CCA Rodeo Ground Rules” will be adopted to the Ram Rodeo Tour Series Finals.

In addition:

1.    For Senior Events – the top 7 competitors for each event, plus the #1 competitor of that event from the   west will be invited to compete at the Ram Rodeo Tour Series Finals.
For Junior Events – the top 5 competitors for each event, plus the #1 competitor of that event from the west will be invited to compete at the Ram Rodeo Tour Series Finals. It will be left to the producer’s discretion to fill all remaining spots to make a complete show.

2.    Must compete in 5 Ram Rodeo Tour Series Rodeos to qualify for the Ram Rodeo Tour Series Finals (Championships)

RAM RODEO FINALS JACKETS AND JUDGES

Hi Everyone,

As the season end is drawing near, we are starting our preparations for the Ram Rodeo Tour Finals. This includes getting people sized up for jackets and voting for the Finals judges. These activities will be done at the Orillia Rodeo, August 27-28. Mary Schofield and I will be on hand during entries to get this done. Please give yourself an extra few minutes after you pay entries in order to assure we get your sizing and vote.

For jackets, we would like the top 12 in each senior event and top 10 in junior events, to come and try the sample jackets so that we can figure out what size you would like.

For voting on judges, only the top 10 from all events are eligible to vote. As indicated Mary will take votes at the entry booth.

In both cases, we need the actual competitor to come and complete these tasks. We cannot accept this information from a third party. If you are not able to be in Orillia to do this, please contact me so that we can make alternate arrangements.

I look forward to seeing everyone in Orillia and wish you all luck in the final 3 rodeos leading up to the Ram Rodeo Tour Finals in Newmarket!

Important Mid Season Communications from Bill Thom

With the second half of the season starting up in West Lorne this coming weekend there is a lot going on in the CCA world. Tweed Entries are tomorrow and I wanted to remind everyone entering of a few important things.

Family Ride Rate: The CCA is offering a family ride rate to anyone traveling and entering rodeo’s as a family. To use this savings please notify the office prior to entering that you are entering as a family. The office will coach you along the rest of the way with this entry process. The new ruling is as follows:

The amount of $8.00 for families consisting of husband and wife or primary caregiver and contestant under the age of 18 as long as they reside in the same residence. Type of membership is not applicable. Contestant must notify RIDE Operator at time of entry.

Bronc Riders: Alberta Premium has sponsored all Bareback and Saddle Bronc riders for the rest of the year by paying their entries. This is an excellent offer that I hope helps to increase the number of riders.

Call Backs: Please make sure you are doing your call backs on Wednesday’s. This gives us as competitors a chance to see what day we are up and if there has been a mistake in your entry. Note: not getting drawn for your first preference does not constitute a mistake.

August 1^st is quickly approaching. This date is important for all junior contestants competing in senior events. Junior memberships must be upgraded before August 1^st to be eligible to compete in a senior event at the finals.

As the season is carrying along please be watchful of the points and standing on both the Ram Rodeo and CCA website. There is a tremendous amount of work that goes into processing the results of the rodeos but sometimes mistakes do happen. Please don’t get frustrated. Please call me or your event rep with any of your questions and we will see that your concerns are taken care of. Additionally if anyone has not been paid for a rodeo to this point, please let me know. I will look into this with the office and let you know when your checks had been mailed out.

We are still in need of event sponsorships for finals jackets. If anyone is interested in sponsoring an event please let your event rep or myself know so that we can get you a sponsorship package. A full sponsorship is $800 and a half sponsorship is $500. If anyone needs more details please do not hesitate to let me know.

I would like to congratulate you and all your success in the first half of the season. There is still a lot of season left to earn money and make that charge to the year end championship we all desire!!

PART 2 OF THE BUILD A COWBOY PROGRAM

It is with great pleasure that I bring to you some information on Part 2 of the Build a Cowboy Program. Harrow is the first rodeo of the season for the CCA and the Ram Rodeo Tour. With this we have a wonderful opportunity to carry on with the teachings and chute procedure. This short session provides the knowledge essential for getting out correctly on your stock, the foundation for the start of all good rides.

Joe Shaw has agreed to bring a few bulls for instructional purposes. The main focus of this clinic is to show you how to get out on stock prior to participation in the rodeo.

We are planning to have this training clinic on the Saturday. The participants of part 1 of the build a cowboy program will have their entries for this rodeo paid as agreed to during the last session. I would recommend that if it is your intention to enter the rodeo you that you do so for the Sunday performance and participate in the chute procedure clinic on Saturday. For those who do not feel comfortable in entering the rodeo you will be given the opportunity to buck out in slack where the pressure of the event is a lot less. According to CCA rules you are not allowed to take practice stock prior to competition. With this in mind those entered in the rodeo will be allowed to participate in the chute procedures but not buck out on stock. Whether you are entering the rodeo or not it is highly recommended that you participate in this clinic and it is essential that you have proof of a valid CCA membership.

Depending on the number of participants we will decide if we run the buck out portion of the clinic during Slack on Saturday or Slack on Sunday. More details to follow in the coming weeks.

I just wanted to send you a quick update to let you know that there was an error in the CCA Eastern ground rules. It has been corrected to the following:

CCA EASTERN GROUND RULES

Ontario C.C.A. Rodeo Ground Rules (Special Events):
Breakaway Roping – Open gate, calf must be roped before entering alley way and the horse must not enter alley way.

Breakaway Roping – Boys 15 years and under as of January 1 of the current season are permitted to enter breakaway roping. Being entered in team roping has no bearing on Breakaway entries.

Breakaway Roping & Pole Bending – To follow approved rules from CCA Eastern Board (The points earned in these optional events will only count towards the Ram Rodeo Tour Series Finals).

Tie Down Roping – The calf roping shall have an open gate and the calf must be roped before entering the alley and the horse must not enter the alley

Tie Down Roping – Drag Rule is 6 feet. The 6 second rule is waived. The run is complete when the cowboy has remounted, is seated on his horse and the horse is stepped forward 1 step and produces slack in the rope. All other CCA rules apply.

Junior Barrel Racing – will be open to boys and girls 15 years and under as of January 1 of the current season. Boy’s points will only count for the Ram Rodeo Tour Series Finals, not the Western CCA Finals at the Regina Agribition.

Pole bending – Boys 15 years and under as of January 1 of the current season will be permitted to compete.

All Junior competitors must wear protective helmets in Jr. Barrels, Jr. Bull Riding and Pole Bending.

All optional events shall meet the membership requirements as outlined in Section 1 of CCA rules. Fee schedule for optional events shall adhere to Appendix A – Membership Dues from the CCA rules.

The competitor who finishes as year end champion will be invited to compete in the CCA Finals at the Regina Agribition provided they have competed in at least 5 CCA approved rodeos.

BREAKAWAY ROPING RULES

Breakaway Roping Rules

   Part A Stock
1.Calves must be uniform.
2.Animals used for this event should be inspected by the judges prior to the rodeo and any objectionable stock shall be eliminated.
3.If horned, not to exceed a maximum span of 14 ½ in.

   Part B Equipment
1.Cattle neck ropes on calves must be tied with string.
2.A mechanical barrier must be used. The barrier shall be set in accordance with the tie down rules of the CCA.

   Part C General Rules
1.There will be a thirty(30) second time limit for the contestant to call for the calf. The judge will determine if additional time may be allotted.
2.The score line will be set in accordance with the CCA tie down rules.
3.If the automatic barrier fails to work the stock is brought back, contestant must take the same animal at a time the producer indicates but prior to the calf being used again.
4.If the barrier equipment hangs on an animal and the contestant tries the animal, he accepts the animal. If the contestant pulls up he will receive the same animal back if the judge calls a foul due to the barrier or other circumstances.
5.Should the barrier break at any point other than the designated breaking point, the decision is up to the barrier judge to call a rerun. If the contestant obviously beats the barrier, but the staples are pulled or the barrier rope is broken and string is unbroken, the barrier judge may assess a ten (10) second penalty. Otherwise this will not be considered a broken barrier.
6.The calf belongs to the contestant when he calls for it, regardless of what happens, except for the following circumstances:
a.In any timed event, if an animal escapes from the arena, the field judge will drop the flag and all watches will be stopped . Contestant will receive the original animal back with a lap and tap start. Time already accumulated will be added to the time used to complete the qualifying run.
b.In cases of mechanical failure
c.If in the opinion of the line judge the contestant is fouled by the barrier, the contestant shall get his calf back, providing the contestant declares himself by pulling up.
d.Lap and Tap - If the barrier judge is to flag the start, he shall flag the animal when the animal’s nose crosses the starting line. If not the barrier may be used to recognize the start of the calf.

7.A contestant must be on her horse and her horse must break the plane of the barrier with her draw breaking the plane of the scoreline before she is allowed to compete.
8.Time is to be taken between two flags.
9.It shall be the judge’s responsibility to see that the contestant competes on the stock drawn for her. In the event of a mistake, the correct drawn stock must be returned if necessary and run during that performance and only that time or score taken.

Part D Event Rules
1.This event is for ladies only except for boys 15 or younger as of January 1 for that season.
2.Membership requirements shall meet the same membership requirements as a standard event in the CCA Rulebook. Juniors must meet the membership requirements as required in the CCA Rulebook. Please refer to the Ontario CCA ground rules for the series finals requirements.
3.This event shall be conducted with an open gate.
4.The rope shall be tied on to the saddle horn or cantle with “mason” string. The rope shall have a knot at the end of the rope with the string tied at the knot. There shall be no tail. A white flag shall be visible to the flagman or judge and must be attached at the knot end of the rope.
5.The rope shall not run through the bridle, tie down, neck rope or any other device.
6.The loop shall go over the head of the calf to be considered a legal catch.
7.The rope must be released from the contestant’s hand to be a legal catch. The contestant shall not pull the rope so as to break the connection to the saddle horn.
8.The loop shall be thrown prior to entering the alley and the horse shall not enter the alley during the run to be considered a legal catch.

Part E Scoring and Penalties
1.In order for the time to be considered official, the barrier flag must operate.
2.The timed event judge will not flag contestant out until time is recorded.
3.The judge is to flag a time, then flag the contestant out if the run is not legal.
4.There will be a ten second penalty assessed for breaking the barrier.
5.Roping the calf without releasing the loop from your hand will disqualify the catch.
6.Contestant will be disqualified for any abusive treatment of the calf or the horse.
7.The contestant will receive no time should the rope break away from the saddle horn by hand. However, if the rope should dally around the horn the contestant may ride forward, undally the rope and then stop the horse to make the rope break away.

Part F Reruns
1.In any timed event, if an animal escapes from the arena, flag will be dropped and watches stopped. Contestant will get animal back with lap and tap start, and time already spent will be added to time used in qualifying plus barrier penalties, if any.
2.During any performance if an animal escapes the chutes or pens before it is called for by the contestant, or if an automatic barrier fails to work and the stock is brought back, that animal will be returned by the arena director and the labour crew during or at the end of that performance in the same manner he was originally worked or brought to the pens for contesting. At least several head of animals will be brought back together. 3.No rerun will be given due to faulty or broken equipment furnished by the contestant
4.If the judge sees he has made an error in flagging, he must declare a rerun before the contestant leaves the arena.
5.A calf must be rerun before it is used by another contestant.
6.In the breakaway roping if an animal fails to break the neck rope and time is officially started by the contestant, that animal belongs to the contestant. However, if time is started by the animal and the breakaway roper remains behind the plain of the barrier for approximately 10 seconds that animal should be considered a sulking animal and replaced using the misdraw procedure.

Part G Payout
1.The prize money and entry fees are added together for the purse in that event for the event.
2.The placing payoff is determined on the purse after the administration fee is deducted. The administration fee is 8%.
a)Money splits for 4 monies if purse is under $1,000.00 payoff split is 40,30,20 and 10 percent.
b)Money splits for 6 monies if purse is $1,000 to $3, 000.00 payoff split is 29,

Well I hope everyone has had a great winter. The 2011 Rodeo season is coming up fast. We have changed things up this year and the CCA East board have arranged for the AGM to be held at the same location as the RAM Series Banquet, but in the afternoon.

Breakaway Ropers - Please note the Breakaway Rules as attached are up for adoption. All breakaway ropers should be present to voice their opinion on this document. These rules are a live document and

are up for discussion . Changes to the rules can only be accepted for discussion at the AGM

CCA EAST AGM

We are sending this message to advise you this year we will be having the AGM the afternoon of the RAM Rodeo Banquet on February 26,2011.

We will be sending additional updates in the next few weeks. If you have any items to bring to the meeting please send them to me. I will be sending out the agenda the week before the meeting. The weekend before our AGM is the AGM in the West and our Director Bill Thom will be attending. With elections to occur out west we will wait to here who will be attending our meeting.

CONGRATULATIONS

I would like to congratulate all the cowboys and cowgirls who traveled to Regina to compete in the CCA finals this year. All of us who followed along from home were treated to wonderful competition and displays of sportsmanship. You never quit, you fought hard every run and ride, and you all represented rodeo in Ontario with the utmost dignity, passion and drive. I am very proud to represent Ontario as the Eastern director. It’s wonderful to see that the competitiveness of Ontario is alive and well and I am excited to see what the future of rodeo will hold.

I want to wish Dusty McMullen a speedy recovery as he took a hard hit in the bull riding in the 3^rd performance. I know with his toughness and determination he will be back in no time.

I want to additionally thank all our field correspondents who kept us up to date with the latest action on Facebook. I know I followed and waited with anticipation to hear the next good thing about Ontario Cowboy’s from this years finals.

Congratulations again and I look forward to an exciting 2011 season.

I just wanted to say thank you to all the people who supported the Silent Auction that was held on Friday at the Ram Rodeo Tour Finals as part of our Pink Night. Together we raised over $550 to be donated to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation on behalf of the cowboys, cowgirls and fans of the Canadian Cowboys Association East and the Ram Rodeo Tour. It was extremely impressive to see everyone come together for such a worthwhile cause.

I cannot thank everyone enough, but I’ll try. Thank you to Dayna Hale, Rochelle Hale and Suzy Carpenter who made multiple donations of both items and their time in putting things together for the auction table. RAM RODEO TOUR PINK NIGHT – BUCKIN' BREAST CANCER $1 AT A TIME

As Finals is fast approaching, I wanted to inform everyone that we have decided that on the Friday of the Ram Rodeo Tour Finals at the Mississauga Hershey Centre this year, we are going to have the Ram Rodeo Tour Pink Night. This gives all the cowboys and cowgirls of the CCA East, the members of the Rodeo Management Group and the Ram Rodeo Tour fans a chance to help support research for a disease that seems to touch everyone in one way or another, Breast Cancer.

For the Pink Night, we encourage everyone to show their support by wearing PINK. Be creative and help us to raise funds to “Buck” breast cancer for good. To raise funds we will be selling donation cards in front of the Hershey Centre before the performance in an attempt to “Paint the Hershey Centre PINK”. Also, we will be hosting a silent auction in the lobby of the Hershey Centre. Any donations for the silent auction would be greatly appreciated whether they are something that can be auctioned off by itself or something that can be put together with other things in a gift basket (e.g. bottle of wine, event tickets, etc.). They can be horse/rodeo related, but do not have to be limited to that as we will hopefully see a diverse audience at the first show of what should be an amazing Finals to wrap up a thrilling 2010 Ram Rodeo season. Anyone who has donations for the silent auction table is asked to bring them to myself in London if possible so that they can be organized in the week leading up to Mississauga.

We are also looking for volunteers to help sell the donation cards prior to the performance and a few volunteers to man the silent auction table on Friday evening during the performance. If we have a few volunteers for the silent auction table then people can rotate and still be able to see the event of their choice. Anyone who is interested in volunteering to assist with any of the fundraising events is asked to contact Bill Thom or myself.

Thank you in advance for any donations and/or assistance that you may be able to provide and I look forward to seeing everyone in London for the heavily anticipated finish of the 2010 season.

CCA EAST NEWS WEBSITE LAUNCH!!!

Welcome to the launch of the “CCA Eastern News” website, your Ontario connection to the Canadian Cowboy Association.

I am excited to announce that this site will now be your headquarters for information pertaining to the CCA in Ontario and all communications from myself and your event reps. Please take some time and look around. Let me know what you think of the site, and if there is anything as members that you would like to see added.

Along with the launch of the new website finals is quickly approaching. I just wanted to let all members know that we are having a pink night on the Friday of Finals where proceeds from the event will be going to help with breast cancer research. I’m anxious to see the turn out of support for this very worthwhile cause. More information and details will follow in the coming days.

As of tonight there are still 3 events left without sponsors. We are working hard to fill these last few holes but if anyone out there knows of potential sponsors please let me know. I will assure they are contacted and given all the necessary information. Full sponsorship is $800 while half sponsorship is $500. Please contact me for more information on packages.

CCA EAST MID SEASON COMMUNICATION

As the 2010 season is rolling on I wanted to maintain the line of communications with an update of some of the issues that we are working on and some general information.

1. Moves - BELOW please find the move form. This form is to be used when you are requesting a move of days or performances. If you wish to change from what the CCA has you drawn for please fill the move form out and e-mail it to Cheryl Bailey on or before the Wednesday prior to the performance. The use of this form avoids the possibility of the e-mail being lost, overlooked, or not communicated. The onus is on the contestant to assure that the paperwork is filled out correctly and received by Cheryl. Cheryl's e-mail address is shoobailey@rogers.com for all that do not have it.

2. Payouts - In discussions with some of the membership it has been noted that the checks for money won or earned at rodeos has been slow coming. I have discussed this with the CCA West and they have assured me that going forward they will have Checks mailed out on or before the Friday following the performance. I would encourage you to e-mail me if you have not yet received a check so that I can follow up with the CCA west, to get you a check number and when that money was put into the mail. The postage system is slow and we cannot control when it is delivered to you once it gets in the mail, however I can give you some feedback as to when your check was mailed if you're still missing payments from past rodeos.

3. Entries - The RIDE system does not allow for entries for 2 events to be over 2 days. Please enter as you have been and if you need to make a change use the move form as indicated above. Make use of the call back system on Wednesdays. This gives you as much opportunity to find out what you are scheduled for and to make necessary changes in advance to reduce issues and stress.

4. Finals - Remember, to be eligible to compete in a major event at the Dodge or CCA rodeo finals, a junior contestant must purchase a senior contesting membership before August 1. He/She will carry forward any points (standings) that were won on the junior membership. Insurances dues only need to be paid one time. Junior members do not need to upgrade their membership status if they are only competing in Junior events at the finals.

ONTARIO CCA GROUND RULES (SPECIAL EVENTS)

Breakaway Roping - Open gate, calf must be roped before entering alley way and the horse must not enter alley way.

Breakaway Roping - Boys 15 years and under as of January 1 of the current season are permitted to enter break a way roping provided they are not entered in tie down roping. Being entered in team roping has no bearing on breakaway entries.

Breakaway Roping & Pole Bending - To follow approved rules from CCA Eastern Board (The points earned in these optional events will only count towards the Dodge Series Finals).

Tie Down Roping - The calf roping shall have an open gate and the calf must be roped before entering the alley and the horse must not enter the alley

Tie Down Roping - Drag Rule is 6 feet. The 6 second rule is waived. The run is complete when the cowboy has remounted, is seated on his horse and the horse is stepped forward 1 step and produces slack in the rope. All other CCA rules apply.

Junior Barrel Racing - will be open to boys and girls 15 years and under as of January 1 of the current season. Boy's points will only count for the Dodge Series Finals, not the Western CCA Finals at the Regina Agribition.

Pole bending - Boys 15 years and under as of January 1 of the current season will be permitted to compete.

All Junior competitors must wear protective helmets in Jr. Barrels and Jr. Bull Riding.

All optional events shall meet the membership requirements as outlined in Section 1 of CCA rules. Fee schedule for optional events shall adhere to Appendix A - Membership Dues from the CCA rules.

The competitor who finishes as year end champion will be invited to compete in the CCA Finals at the Regina Agribition provided they have competed in at least 5 CCA approved rodeos.

** "Section VII - Junior Contestants rule #1(b)" **

Dodge Series Finals Ground Rules:
All "CCA Bylaws and Rodeo Rules" and "Ontario CCA Rodeo Ground Rules" will be adopted to the Dodge Series Finals.

In addition:

1. For Senior Events - the top 7 competitors for each event, plus the #1 competitor of that event from the west will be invited to compete at the Dodge Series Finals. For Junior Events - the top 5 competitors for each event, plus the #1 competitor of that event from the west will be invited to compete at the Dodge Series Finals. It will be left to the producer's discretion to fill all remaining spots to make a complete show.

2. Must compete in 5 Dodge Series Rodeos to qualify for the Dodge Series Finals (Mississauga Championships) and the Toronto Royal Winter Fair.

3. Juniors must upgrade to a Senior membership by August 1st to compete in any adult event at the Dodge Series Finals. Points accrued as a Junior member will count when membership is upgraded to Senior status if membership is upgraded by August 1st.

Our 2010 rodeo season is upon us and the Eastern Board would like to welcome you. I would first like to introduce myself as your new Eastern Director. My name is Bill Thom and I have been involved in rodeo, riding bulls going on 5 years. The last portion of the 2009 season I was also the Bull Riding Representative for the CCA Eastern Division. I am committed to the sport of rodeo and would like to see it thrive here in Ontario. As we transition from last year to this please be patient. We will get up to speed quickly while still addressing all issues that are before the board.

I would like to extend a warm thank-you to Denise Stoddart and her board members for the effort and commitment they put into their roles over the last years. We are here today because of the foundation that has been put into place through your dedication to the sport and the initiative to begin our junior assistance program. Once again, Thank-you.

I would like to thank Jonathan Kmita, Graham Stewart and Kathryn Moorman for taking the time to attend the AGM held in London. I would also like to thank the Management Team of the Can Am in assisting with the organization of the meeting. Some interesting information came out of this meeting. I am pleased to announce this year we will be introducing Jr. Steer riding to the program for our Jr. membership. It will be open to all competitors (male and female) under the age of 14. If anyone has any specific questions regarding this please do not hesitate to ask.

As a whole, Jr. membership is down but especially with Rough Stock riders. A discussion was initiated at the AGM surrounding how we can work towards creating a "succession plan" going forward. I would like to form a committee of interested people (not only rough stock riders) who would like to get involved in building that succession plan. The Jr.'s are our future and if we do not provide a vehicle for them to learn the fundamentals of the sport of rodeo, we will not have their interest in the future. I will be discussing some of our next steps to achieve this with the committee and the eastern board. I would like to put this committee in place by the first rodeo so I can report the status of our initiatives early in the season. Please contact me if you are interested in being apart of that committee. Additionally if you have any ideas but are not able to join as a committee member please contact me at the address below.

Rule changes were introduced by Jonathan Kmita and Graham Stewart. Additional ground rules were also brought forward to the membership for Ontario. Once these ground rules have been reviewed by the western board and approved we will notify the members. Please watch for these in following messages and on the Dodge Rodeo website.

I will be sending out messages throughout the course of the year, please stay close to your computers. You will have an opportunity to address questions or concerns and hear about what the CCA is working on. Times and dates for Eastern Board meetings will be posted with due notice on the Dodge website. We will be still looking at a central website to post questions on. Some changes may have to occur to the present MSN address. We will advise when this is up and running.
